It brings together conventional curative medicine, for example General Practice, with other more preventative techniques that can improve your current health status, decrease your chances of becoming ill and reduce the severity of your symptoms if you are already suffering from a chronic medical condition.

A textbook definition

Lifestyle medicine is a total-health approach for you that has its foundation in “the application of environmental, behavioural, medical and motivational principles  to the management of lifestyle-related health problems in a clinical setting’ and offers us a map with which we can navigate the “proper treatment of chronic disease.” When we add the concepts of self-care and self-management, a picture emerges of an empowered patient with a different set of beliefs about health and what it is to be well.
