Bioidentical HRT
Menopause is in the news a lot at the moment, and rightly so! It’s about time women had access to the support they need when navigating a change we will all go through. Perhaps you saw the Channel 4 programme by Davina McCall where she spoke about her own menopause experiences? The programme also spoke to other women who had found it hard to get the information and treatment they needed, and discussed the benefits of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) treatment and Bioidentical HRT.
Did you know that we offer Bioidentical HRT here at Human Health by The Clinic?
For those of you who haven’t heard of it before, Bioidentical HRT (BHRT) is a great option if you are experiencing hormone fluctuations and imbalances.
You’ve probably heard of conventional HRT, which is often prescribed by GPs as a treatment for the symptoms of menopause and other hormone imbalances. Bioidentical HRT is different to conventional HRT because the hormones used are bioidentical, which means they exactly replicate the structure of human hormones. This is not always the case with conventional HRT, where hormones are made from, for example, the urine of pregnant horses and other synthetic hormones. Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant oestrogens: they are chemically identical to those that the human body produces.
BHRT can help with many of the symptoms of hormone fluctuations and imbalances, including:
- Hot flushes and night sweats
- Anxiety
- Tiredness
- Disturbed sleep
- Mood swings
- Premenstrual syndrome / PMT
- Low libido and sexual dysfunction
- Osteoporosis
- Polycystic ovaries
- Acne
- Dry and wrinkled skin
First steps to treatment
If you would like to find out more about BHRT and if it could be right for you, the first step is a consultation with Dr. Mayoni. At this consultation Dr. Mayoni will take a full medical history to check that BHRT is suitable for you and give you all the details you need about the treatment. You will also have time to ask questions. If all is well and you decide to proceed with treatment, Dr. Mayoni will ask you to attend for a blood test at an external medical centre in order to assess the hormone levels in your body. The results from this test will allow Dr. Mayoni to formulate a treatment plan for you.
Ongoing support
Once treatment has started, you will have follow-up appointments approximately every six weeks, depending on your personal treatment plan. Repeat blood tests will monitor your progress.
You can rest assured that you are in expert hands: Dr. Mayoni received her BHRT training at the prestigious Marion Gluck Training Academy and has pursued an interested in women’s health since she was a surgeon in the NHS.
